Community Needs

What could we make possible together?

This page is for listening before building. We name what people want, what exists, what's missing, and what could help — then real responses guide what happens next.

The central question

What needs to happen for this adventure to become possible?

We do not automatically ask how Marquette Adaptive can run the program. First we look for existing providers, practical barriers, equipment, expertise, local delivery, and support that could help the right organization make the opportunity real.

Being built

Adaptive alpine skiing

What we’re listening for
A local downhill skiing pathway outside narrow eligibility-based options.
What exists
Para-nordic and other winter sport options exist through local organizations.
What’s missing
Adaptive alpine equipment, trained instructors, insurance, operations, pricing, and launch process.
What could help
Funding, adaptive-specific expertise, program leadership, storage, transportation, and verified participant interest.

Listening

Adaptive mountain biking

What we’re listening for
Trail riding that matches Marquette's outdoor culture, not only paved-path biking.
What exists
Adaptive biking exists through local adaptive recreation activity, but inventory and borrowing details need verification.
What’s missing
Off-road adaptive cycles, trained support, trail suitability information, and clear participation pathways.
What could help
Equipment knowledge, trail expertise, funding, and real interest from people who want to ride.

Seeking equipment

Adaptive paddling

What we’re listening for
Kayaking or paddling on Lake Superior and inland water without guessing what support exists.
What exists
Accessible launch infrastructure exists in Marquette.
What’s missing
Adaptive seating, transfer support, instruction, tandem options, and verified seasonal details.
What could help
Equipment, instructors, provider interest, and information about practical barriers at launch sites.

Verifying

Sled hockey

What we’re listening for
A clear way to try or join sled hockey locally.
What exists
A local sled hockey connection has been identified and is being verified.
What’s missing
Current season, eligibility, equipment, cost, ice time, coaching, and registration details.
What could help
Players, families, coaches, rink connections, equipment information, and funding for capacity.

Listening

Trails, beaches, and overlooks

What we’re listening for
Practical outdoor access information before someone goes.
What exists
Accessibility information exists for several Marquette County locations.
What’s missing
Current surface conditions, restroom and parking details, transfer information, and equipment availability.
What could help
Verified local knowledge, corrections, accessible-route details, and equipment information.

Community Adventure Fund

Designed for responsible future support.

The site and records are being structured so a future board-governed Community Adventure Fund could responsibly support both build-what's-missing work and strengthen-what's-working needs. No grants or distributions are promised before appropriate governance, policies, legal structure, financial controls, eligibility requirements, and approval processes exist.

Directory independence

Need, not sponsorship, determines what gets attention.

A partner can help close a gap, but partnership never buys control, participant information, photos, board influence, or preferential placement in the resource directory.
